Top Eleven No. 1 – Are Restaurant Goers Superstitious?

Print Friendly, PDF & Email

A recent survey of air passengers showed a surprising level of superstitious activity among those about to board a flight (Ref. 1).

Could it be that restaurant goers also harbour superstitions about their next eating out venture?

If we matched the restaurant goers with air travellers would we find results like this?

Top 11 list of superstitions by restaurant attendees:

  1. Touching the outside of the restaurant before entering to ensure a safe experience
  2. Taking a good luck charm/mascot into the restaurant
  3. Refusing to sit in certain seats in the restaurant, for example, next to the window
  4. Reciting prayers or mantras
  5. Wearing clothes inside out
  6. Only eating at restaurants with a top notch safety record
  7. Holding hands (very tightly) to ensure a hygienic meal
  8. Sticking to a certain routine (e.g. ordering the same dish)
  9. Only eating at restaurants run by high-flying chefs
  10. Not eating out on certain dates (such as Friday 13th)
  11. Being determined to order the rabbit’s foot if it is on the menu
